ACT GOVERNMENT PRIMARY SCHOOLS

_______________________________________________________________________________

2011 CURRENT NEEDS – CAN YOU HELP?

FADDEN PRIMARY SCHOOL – requires 2-4 volunteers for one group of 15 students, just one morning of each school term (approx. week 9)

MAJURA (WATSON) PRIMARY SCHOOL – requires 2-4 volunteers for 3 groups of 15 students, for one day of each school term (approx. week 9)

BLACK MOUNTAIN SCHOOL – has special needs students waiting for volunteers to tell them about God; could be as regularly as every week but times and days are negotiable

WEETANGERA PRIMARY SCHOOL – is moving to the new model in 2012 – new volunteers are welcome to join the existing team

OVER 40 PRIMARY SCHOOLS have NO Christian Religious Education program – PRAYER, PROMOTION AND PARENT REQUESTS ARE NEEDED!!

________________________________________________________________________________

The ACT Churches’ Council recognises that the Education Act 2004 affirms the place of Christian Religious Education (CRE) in government schools.

Section 29 of the current ACT Government Education Act 2004:

29 Religious education

(1) If parents of children at a government school ask the principal for their children to receive religious education in a particular religion, the principal must ensure that reasonable time is allowed for their children’s religious education in that religion.

Parents may place a request for Christian Religious Education by speaking to their school principal or by filling in the ‘Join The ACTion’ CRE brochure available at their school, via the CRE Coordinator, or online at www.det.act.gov.au/teaching_and_learning/curriculum_programs/religious_education

A NEW MODEL FOR CHRISTIAN RELIGIOUS EDUCATION!

From 2011 a new model for CRE is being developed as an option for any government primary school receiving requests for CRE (current legislation allows parents to request CRE).

The model consists of 4 pre-planned, prepared and professional sessions (one for each term) that rotate small groups of students through educational ‘investigation stations’. Each rotation requires approximately one hour and will most likely occur in the school hall.

In 2011 all 4 sessions are presented from a traditional perspective:

TERM 1 – EASTER EXTRAVAGANZA

God creator, God present, God human, Jesus suffering, Jesus risen

TERM 2 – BEYOND YOU

spiritual development, my self, others, the environment, God

TERM 3 – BIBLE BONANZA

word of mouth, written scrolls, many books, one big story, the Bible today

TERM 4 – CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS

angel visits, Mary & Joseph, the Shepherds, the Magi, celebrate!

The stations within each session vary in style and action, aiming to engage all students for a majority of the time, to increase the chances that each child makes a connection with the message presented.

___________________________________________________________________________

READY TO GO! VOLUNTEERING INFO!

The delivery of any CRE can only happen if volunteers come forward.

The new model makes it easy for ANY church member to volunteer:

Contact the CRE Coordinator.

Complete the documents in the volunteer kit provided.

Attend the training for each session you wish to be part of. (If possible, it is recommended that you aim to do all 4 sessions in at least one school, so that relationships with the students can be developed over the consecutive visits.)

All resources and activities will be ready to go for each session – simply choose the part that you would like to do! (Parts will vary across the stations, for example: setting up, packing away, story-telling, puppets, drama, games, craft, music, art, actions, play-dough, lego, media, DVD, computer, general support, etc.)

Become part of a team to deliver the CRE sessions in one or more schools.

___________________________________________________________________________

SESSION TRAINING TIMES

ONE training course for each session is offered at two different times. Please attend the time that suits you best. Contact the CRE Coordinator to RSVP or to discuss an alternative time.

TERM 3 – BIBLE BONANZA
Wed 31st August 9.30-11.30am OR 5.00-7.00pm
