CMN Website Manager Role

(a.k.a CMN Beekeeper … referencing the networking honeycomb logo:)

DRAFT WORDING ONLY SUGGESTION ONLY UNTIL RATIFIED BY CMN CHAIRS CHANGE AS REQUIRED

The role of the CMN Beekeeper is be to oversee, maintain and promote the momentum and growth of the various areas* of the website related to:

  1. Ongoing review and development;
  2. Drive activity; and
  3. Keep information fresh and up to date.

* above asterisking the ‘various areas of the website’ refers to the 6 categories and the 7 state areas indicated by the coloured portals in the footer of each web page.

*** below indicates where work/time/energy is still required

1. Ongoing review and development.

This area relates to the actual hosting, structure and function of the website; the policies that govern it’s usage; the look and the feel of the website; and the encouragement, education and support of those appointed to moderate it’s pages.

State Pages

  • Encourage the appointment of a state cmn web manager where possible
  • Encourage and educate the state cmn web managers
  • Develop tools to help managers moderate their pages more effectively.   e.g. use of input forms for CMN member pages and the CMN Attendees pages along with any other local area network pages as required and providing step by step instructions and for their moderation.***
  • Encourage stage CMN web manages to populate their state pages where possible.
  • Review/develop/add/populate/moderate the state pages as required.
  • Develop/review these related pages including oversee the provision of the tools to help development this area.
  • Provide input forms on pages required to populate the pages.
  • Note: More work is needed to add depth (more words, paragraphs, papers) this area … particularly a review of ‘About us’ ‘Initiatives’ ‘Networking resources’ ‘Australia’***

CMNConnect.

  • This is the interactive, conversational side of the CMN website picture. Other areas are more static.
  • Provide support and encouragement to continue this area’s review and development.
  • Note: This daughter site is functioning but is underpopulated, under utilised, under developed … with some further refinement needed to review the functionality of the user interface and a few bug fixes. Chris England (Toowoomba) heads up the development of this daughter site.***

Events

  • Develop/review these pages including oversee the provision of the tools to help development this area.
  • Provide input forms on pages required to populate the pages in a mostly automated way. A draft post event still needs to be moderated and some simple steps added to ensure it looks just right on a page.
  • Provide step by step instructions and education to moderators to help them finalise the posts to this area.***
  • Note: Tools currently include input forms to post an event. Under consideration is an online rego form for an individual event as long as it doesn’t require credit cards. Also the addition of Google event calendar.***

Resource People

  • Develop/review these pages including oversee the provision of the tools to help development this area.
  • Provide input forms on pages required to populate the pages in a mostly automated way. A draft post event still needs to be moderated and some simple steps added to ensure it looks just right on a page.
  • Provide step by step instructions and education to moderators to help them finalise the posts to this area up to a point. This step would provide a level of sustainability if a moderator was to be replaced.***
  • As some Adobe Illustrator graphic work is required, some moderation will still be the role of the CMN Web Manager who will need related computer software (Adobe Illustrator) and related skills. This may be review to eliminate pretty graphics.

Positions Vacant

  • Develop/review these pages including oversee the provision of the tools to help development this area.
  • Provide input forms on pages required to populate the pages in a mostly automated way. A draft post event still needs to be moderated and some simple steps added to ensure it looks just right on a page.
  • Provide step by step instructions and education to moderators to help them finalise the posts to this area.***

Resources:

  • Develop/review these pages including oversee the provision of the tools to help development this area.

  • Provide step by step instructions and education to moderators to help them finalise the posts to this area.
  • Note: Currently a major review is required to determine the need, purpose, policy, function … leading to decisions about structure, design, … then to build and implement this whole area … including providing a way (input form) of anyone contributing resources.**major**

2. Activity

Activity is firstly about population.

State level home pages with:

  • state members (post your organisation, logo, website)
  • state meeting attendees (post your name, photo, leadership quote, likes … humanising the face of the network meetings)

Other pages with:

  • resource people (trainer, presenter, artist … post a description of what you offer)
  • events (post your event with as little or as much info as you need; reference back to your website)

Ideally, CMN would be a first port of call to see ALL the state and nations events, resource people and positions vacant, referencing back to individuals’ websites as required. This would be the primary function of a networking website.

CMNConnect needs:

  • the regular posting forum topics for discussion
  • the regular use by CMN attendees of this platform for discussion. E.g. ongoing discussion about this page could be as part of a forum.
  • encouragement for change for those not used to a ‘digital conversation’ to ‘connect’ as a network on this platform

Driving activity is at least three-fold.

  • Educating and encouraging state chairs and website moderators to engage in the website and promote it’s use in their states.
  • Educating and encouraging state website moderators to up skill in terms of moderating their own state’s activity in the back end of our WordPress website. Some skill is needed here to follow step by step instructions to complete simple moderation tasks.
  • Encouraging all CMN member organisations to add a CMN logo and clause to the bottom of all their emails and to their websites.
Note: New initiatives in this area to drive activity is to provide a ‘Newsletter’ via MailChimp signups to the site and it’s activities, alerting recipients to the relevant forums, additions to areas to promote it’s use.

3. Freshness and currency.

The role of the moderator in this area is to:

  • complete the tasks related to the posting of contributions in the various areas in a timely fashion, e.g. with 36hours of receiving notification that a post needs moderation.
  • Add a forum at least once per month and monitor it’s progress
  • ensure the use of the technology for ‘post expiration’ to remove posts, e.g. events automatically after they expire. This is the role of each moderator as each post is moderated.
